Cheap Garage Shelving

I am so sorry it’s been such a long time since I have posted.  I am almost done with school, though.  This means much more time doing projects and more time to post about them!

I have been having issues with my HOA about a storage shed.  There are so many rules out there, as most of you are likely aware of.  At any rate, I wasn’t ready to keep fighting with the HOA, but something had to be done as my garage was becoming a huge cluster!  The only storage I really had in the garage was the floor and one work bench.  The work bench was good size and very sturdy, but it just became a catch all.

All I did was take down the work bench and add shelving along the walls.  The materials used was 3/8″ plywood and shelving brackets.  I cut the plywood equal widths.  Then, I cut the lengths I needed.  I took two pieces of the cut plywood and put them on top of the mounted shelving brackets.  Then, I took 1″ wood screws and from the bottom I screwed the two pieces of plywood together.  I put a bracket every 16″ or so, which was how far apart the studs are in the garage.

I will add pictures later, but this worked great.  I originally had approximately 10 square foot of storage with the workbench.  Now, I have approximately 50 square feet of shelving.  Also, I implemented a gardening tool organizer under one of the shelves.  The total cost for all the material was about $60.  Money well spent in my opinion! What’s more, I kept the top of the work bench. It fits right beside the dryer in the garage. I bought a $20 set of saw horses. So now, I just put the horses up and put the work bench top across them and I have a portable working flat surface!
